easyJet will Operate London Gatwick-Menorca Flights Year-round

EasyJet, the leading airline in Europe, has announced that it would now operate its summer London Gatwick-Menorca flights throughout the winter, making year-round service to the Balearic Islands possible.

Menorca’s international connectivity will be boosted during the winter season by extending the route, offering an extra 16,000 seats. Flights are scheduled to begin on November 6, 2024, and operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

At a press conference held today in Menorca, the agreement was presented by Adolfo Vilafranca, president of the Consell Insular de Menorca, Begoña Mercadal, director of Tourism Promotion on the island, and Javier Gándara, general director of easyJet in Southern Europe. This represents a significant advancement towards one of the primary goals of the Consell Insular government team, which is to guarantee the island’s year-round connectivity.

Javier Gándara, General Director of easyJet in Southern Europe, said, “We are delighted to announce that our route between Menorca and London Gatwick will now operate all year round. This extension to the winter season not only underlines our commitment to sustained growth in Spain but also demonstrates our dedication to the local community in Menorca.

“At easyJet, we understand the importance of international connectivity and are proud to contribute to the island’s strategy of year-round connectivity to London and beyond.”

Adolfo Vilafranca, President of the Consell Insular de Menorca, said, “We are demonstrating our work with concrete facts: this agreement is the result of a lot of hard work and goodwill to connect the island even more in the low season, guaranteeing international routes during the winter months.

“Being able to have this air route that allows us to be directly connected to London, is the answer to popular demand in two directions: both from residents of the island who want to fly to the British capital and from those in the United Kingdom who want to visit us between November and March, that is, away from the summer. We are focused on moving towards a sustainable season throughout the year. The promotional activities agreed with easyJet will be linked to Menorca’s culture, active tourism, gastronomy and nature.”

Consell and the Foundation keep improving air connectivity to encourage island tourism year-round and give clients essential connections when the summer is over.

EasyJet began operating in the Balearic Islands more than 25 years ago, and since then, it has grown to carry approximately 45 million passengers and connect the islands to 64 destinations in Europe and the UK. EasyJet started offering London Gatwick-Menorca flights in 2005, and as of now, the airline has flown 3.6 million passengers on this route.
