Following the planned expansion from Liverpool, Ryanair announced the addition of nine new routes from Birmingham airport and two from Manchester this winter.
The nine flights the no-frills carrier will be starting from Birmingham are Agadir, Berlin, Derry, Łodz, Marrakesh, Paphos, Paris, Plovdiv and Treviso. The airline is also adding capacity on eight other routes.
Seven aircraft based in Birmingham will cover a network of 39 routes for the expanded winter schedule.
The addition of Memmingen and Tangier to the winter routes from Manchester has brought the total routes to 65. Capacity will also be raised on 36 services, including Alicante, Barcelona, Budapest, Malaga, Malta, and Milan.
Seventeen Manchester-based aircraft will be used to operate Ryanair’s winter schedule, seven of which are new Boeing 737 Max aircraft.
This growth plan was initiated after the addition of three winter routes from Liverpool Airport.
A spokesperson said: “As an island economy on the periphery of Europe, it is vital that Ryanair continues to grow low-cost air access to/from the UK, particularly for the regions where tourism growth is suffering the most from the government’s APD.
“This tax unfairly imposes £13 on all UK citizens/visitors, making air travel to/from the UK less competitive, particularly when other EU states, like Sweden, Poland, Croatia, and Italy, are lowering costs and cutting taxes to encourage rapid growth.”
