After 4 years, British Airways finally touched down in Bangkok last week.
On October 28, the aircraft departed London Gatwick at 21:15 local time and landed at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport the following day at 16:10 local time. Since this was the first flight in 4 years, the passengers were greeted with traditional dancers, flower garlands, and local gifts.
British Airways, which last operated a flight to Thailand there in 2020, stated earlier this year that it would be resuming flights to Bangkok. Initially, flights will run three times a week, but gradually, flights will increase to five times a week in January and February of 2025, and decrease to four times a week in March. World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and Club World (business class) are the three cabins available to passengers with return flights starting at £718.
Passengers can also easily connect from Bangkok to five vacation spots now thanks to the airline’s newly announced expanded codeshare arrangement with Bangkok Airways. Customers can fly north to Chiang Mai to take in the stunning mountain scenery and historic temples, or they can visit the turquoise waters of Koh Samui or Phuket. Those who choose to visit Cambodia can take a plane to either the tourist town of Siem Reap in the northwest or the country’s busy capital, Phnom Penh.
Neil Chernoff, the Chief Planning and Strategy Officer of British Airways, said, “We know that Bangkok has been a highly anticipated route restart for our customers, so we are thrilled to see it firmly back on our global route map.
“Not only does Bangkok itself have so much to offer our leisure customers, but it is a gateway to some of the most beautiful parts of Southeast Asia, and we are proud to make these more accessible to the UK market.”
Ms. Sadudee Sangnil, Director of UK, Ireland & South Africa, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said, “It is great to welcome British Airways back to Thailand, and just in time for the peak season. With so much to experience across Thailand,, adding these flights means we can welcome more people, seeking winter sun, to experience Thailand’s warmth, beauty, and culture. Connectivity to popular hubs such as Phuket is fantastic but we also welcome visitors to explore beyond and discover local communities, national parks and lesser-known beaches. Chiang Mai, which has quickly recovered from recent floods, is also welcoming travellers again.”
British Airways has also announced that it would start operating daily flights from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur on April 1, 2025. It will begin operating flights to Ivalo, Lapland, from London Gatwick and Tromsø, Norway, from London Heathrow, next month.
