British Airways Will Suspend Heathrow-Beijing Flights from October

British Airways, the flag carrier airline of the United Kingdom, will cease to operate all London Heathrow-Beijing Flights from October, only 14 months after it resumed following the pandemic, until the end of 2025.

The airline told a travel news portal in a statement: “We will be pausing our route to Beijing from 26 October 2024, and we’re contacting any affected customers with rebooking options or to offer them a full refund.

they added, “We continue to operate daily flights to Shanghai and Hong Kong.”

Unlike other airlines in the United Kindom, British Airways does not use Russian airspace, which caused the flight times to be longer and flight costs to be more expensive. This is why it is considered to be the leading cause of the route’s suspension.

Avoiding Russian Airspace on its way to China has become very costly for other UK airlines as well. Virgin Atlantic announced last month about suspending its Heathrow-Shanghai route from October too.

Flights to Shanghai have become an hour longer for UK airlines after flying over Russia became unfavourable, while requiring additional aircraft and crew time has made the return flights 2 hours longer.

After being suspended in January 2020 due to the pandemic, the British Airways flights between London Heathrow and Beijing Daxing Airport restarted in June 2023

Currently, British Airways is the only UK airline that operates a direct flight service between Beijing and London.

the British Airways London Heathrow-Beijing flights are operated four times a week, with the flights departing Daxing Airport, Beijing, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

This suspension of direct flights between London and Beijing is presumed to continue till November 2025.
