Catania Flights Cancelled Due to Volcanic Erupt

Twin volcanic eruptions caused flights to and from Catania Airport in Sicily to be cancelled.

According to the Foreign Office, services in and out of this airport have either been cancelled or re-routed to Palermo or Comiso.

Updated travel advice for Italy said, “Due to volcanic activity, local authorities have increased the alert levels for both Etna and Stromboli in the south of Italy.

“In the event of a volcanic eruption, follow the advice of local authorities.

“Arrivals and departures into Catania airport are suspended If you are travelling to or from Catania, check with your travel provider or with Catania airport.”

According to the Catania Airport’s departure board, EasyJet and Ryanair are among the airlines that had to cancel flights to this location.

Backed by third-party airport handling services, Jet2 was also warned prior to the industrial action which took place last Friday, July 5.

The Company claimed, “We are not expecting this action to have any significant impact on our flights arriving or departing from Venice and all Jet2.com flights are expected to depart as scheduled.”
