Heathrow Airport Handled Almost 40m Flyers in Six Months

This week, London Heathrow Airport has revealed it has handled close to 40 million passengers in the first half of the year.

This huge figure was presented along with their financial performance report for the first half of this year, during which, 39.8 million people passed through London Heathrow.

Moreover, on the 30th of June, the airport handled 1,300 flights and 268,000 passengers in a single day, making it their busiest day in the first 6 months and making a profit of £178 million before taxes. Compared to the same time last year, when they reported a loss of £139 million, this is an improvement. This is true even though sales decreased by 2.9% from £1.74 billion in 1H23 to nearly £1.7 billion in 1H24.

Thomas Woldbye, the CEO of London Heathrow Airport, commented on this impressive number, “Serving record-breaking passenger numbers while continuing to deliver excellent customer service is no easy feat and is a testament to the dedication of my hardworking colleagues.”

“In addition to the nearly 40 million passengers that flew through Heathrow during the first 6 months, so did 765,000 tonnes of cargo, supporting world-leading British industries to access global export markets.”

“We are working hard to deliver economic benefits for all of the UK, but this needs to be supported by joined-up policy-making that prioritises global competitiveness and sustainable growth.”

“We are encouraged by the new Government’s recognition of Heathrow’s role in powering growth across the country, and look forward to working with Ministers to ensure we are firing on all cylinders and retain our global standing.”

To sum up, London Heathrow Airport has witnessed a successful start to 2024. The airport is shattering records as we are entering the Summer peak, where the pace will continue.

Now, everyone will focus on the airport’s projected traffic patterns for the remainder of the summer, especially, on the end-of-year totals for this Airport.
