easyJet holidays published a list of alternative holiday destinations for British travellers, and Malta came out on top.
Malta, an island sitting in the Mediterranean off the coast of North Africa and about halfway to Italy, has heavy British influences, making it a melting pot of cultures and, of course, food! The stunning coastlines around the island also include their very own ‘Blue Grotto’, and combined with an average of 300 days of annual sunshine, it’s the perfect place to get away from the mainstream.
After seeing significant increases in searches, the next two spots on the list go to Sardinia and Seville.
The Italian island of Sardinia may be known for its sandy beaches, but it also provides wonderful hiking trails for those seeking a bit more of an adventurous holiday.
Meanwhile, Seville serves as an alternative to some of Spain’s big cities like Barcelona and Madrid. As it is located in southern Spain, it guarantees a warmer climate. It features stunning Moorish architecture, with a rich mix of tradition and vibrancy.
Matt Callaghan, the Chief Operating Officer at easyJet Holidays, said, “As a nation, we love to travel abroad, and our research shows that many Brits are keen to try something new this summer. In fact, 63% said they’d be more likely to book a holiday to a lesser-known destination if more information were available—highlighting a real appetite for something a little different.
As part of our ESG strategy, we’re focused on creating meaningful travel experiences that leave a positive, lasting impact. By spotlighting lesser-known destinations, we aim to support local economies, celebrate diverse cultures, and encourage responsible tourism that respects the people and places at the heart of every trip.
That’s why we’re proud to launch our ‘Different Destinations’ range—a platform designed to inform and inspire, offering travel tips, local insights, and thoughtful recommendations that benefit both our customers and the communities they visit. We believe tourism should enrich everyone it touches, and this initiative reflects our commitment to more inclusive and considerate travel across Europe and Northern Africa.”
The data coincides with easyJet Holidays launching its ‘Different Destinations’ range and it has compiled a list of destinations you could try based on where you normally holiday.
The data suggests that travellers who like to go to the Greek Islands for holidays would love visiting Izmir, Turkey. Similarly, it recommends Djerba, Tunisia, for The Bahamas; Zadar, Croatia, for Cornwall, UK; Costa De La Luz, Spain, for Marbella, Spain; Seville, Spain, for Barcelona, Spain; Bordeaux, France, for Paris, France; Bourgas, Bulgaria, for Algarve, Portugal; Ljubljana, Slovenia, for Venice, Italy; Bilbao, Spain, for Florence , Italy; Corsica, France, for South of France; and so on
The data compiled by easyJet Holidays also showed that 73% of British travellers have been influenced by AI when looking at alternative holiday destinations, but lack of information, cost, and fear of the unknown are standing in the way of 26% of them actually booking a trip.
However, you can’t let those stop you from experiencing new things, so check out the list of alternative holiday destinations for British travellers in 2025.
