Ryanair is transitioning to an entirely digital boarding pass system for all passengers, effective Wednesday, November 12, 2025. This means passengers of most flights will no longer have to download and print a physical paper boarding pass.
The shift is part of the airline’s digital transformation strategy to eliminate the wastage of hundreds of tons of paper annually and aim for a “faster, smarter, and greener travel experience.” Ryanair says the move is environmentally conscious.
The digital boarding pass will be generated within the “myRyanair” app after checking in online. Travellers should ensure they have the latest version of the app on their smart device before heading to the airport.
This provides real-time updates on boarding times, gate changes, and delays, as well as improved customer service during flight disruptions. While online check-in can still be completed on the Ryanair website, you will be directed to the app to generate and present your digital boarding pass.
Ryanair has also provided assurances for passengers who may face technical difficulties or do not own a smart device.
In case the battery on your device has died, but you have already checked in online before arriving at the airport, staff will reissue a paper boarding pass free of charge at the check-in or ticket desk. Your details will be on the system.
Passengers without a smart device can still check in beforehand using a computer and then request a free paper boarding pass at the check-in desk at the airport. In this case, it is essential to check in online before arrival to avoid a fee.
Not all airports are ready for the switch. Passengers flying from Morocco will still be required by local government regulation to present a printed paper boarding pass. You must still check in online and then collect the printed pass at the airport check-in desk.
The airline confirmed that roughly 80% of its passengers already use the digital boarding system. Ryanair encourages all travellers to familiarise themselves with the app before their travel date to ensure a smooth journey.
