European Aviation Sector Unites to Improve Sustainability Across Europe

The associations representing the European aviation sector recently announced their joint intention to make the skies of Europe the most efficient and environmentally friendly in the world.

In order to fulfill the EU’s Green Deal objective of reaching climate neutrality by 2050, air travel-related organizations like airlines, airports, air navigation service providers, aviation manufacturers, and business aviation have jointly decided to commit to maximizing capacity in the air while also reducing the environmental footprint of flying. And thus, they aim to transform the aviation sector through greener initiatives.
This transformation can be achieved in the coming years through the technological pathway of optimizing the European air traffic management (ATM) system.

Innovation in ATM can improve efficiency and enable the European Aviation Sector to meet the presumed growing levels of passenger traffic while at the same time reducing considerable CO2 emissions. This can be achieved through the deployment of new digital tools developed under the EU’s Single European Sky ATM Research Programme (SESAR).

Since the EU ATM Master Plan serves as the common roadmap for SESAR, the associations will work together to update it immediately. The European associations that are currently working diligently for this cause are ACI EUROPE (Airport Council International), A4E (Airlines For Europe), AIRE, ASD, CANSO (Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation), EBAA, and ERA.

The associations have declared their commitment to work together to make their industry truly sustainable and more efficient, which will benefit all Europeans.
