New York to London in 3 and a Half Hours!

It now takes 6 and a half hours to fly from New York to London. But the American airline company United Airlines Boom Supersonic, which is bringing the fastest aircraft, will take only 3 and a half hours!

15 supersonic aircraft will be purchased from a startup company called Boom Supersonic, said Scott Kirby, CEO of that company.

United Airlines said on Thursday (July 28) that it plans to begin pilot flights in 2025. Boom Supersonic may begin commercial flight in 2029.

According to the commercial agreement, United would buy Boom’s “Overture” aeroplanes if they satisfied “United’s exacting safety, operational, and sustainability criteria,” the firms claimed in a joint press statement. Passenger service is expected to begin in 2029.

Although several experts voiced scepticism about the news, given the very short timeline, it does mark a potential return to a once widely-touted mode of transportation.

If the whole plan becomes a reality, experts believe that a revolutionary change in the air transportation system can happen.

A supersonic aircraft can travel through the air at twice the speed of sound. Currently, it takes 6 and a half hours to travel from New York to London. However, according to Boom, a supersonic aircraft with 65 to 88 seats will take half that time to travel.
